THE WORTHAM BOOKS

1. You portray the historical period of the Great Depression so vividly. Why did you choose to write a story about this time period?
2. How much research did you have to do to write about this time period?
3. What inspired you to write the Worthams' story?
4. Are the Wortham characters based on anyone you know? Do you have a favorite character?
   
   I suppose the characters may all have similarities to real people, but none of them are based on any one specific person. Emma was definitely a favorite, and also Julia and Samuel each in their own way. Their children, particularly Sarah, are favorites as well. But as the series has developed, the neighbor boy Franky has found a special place in my heart, and he will continue to be significant.
