BEING A WRITER
- When did you first start writing?
I’ve been writing since I was a kid. I began with short stories, poems, and even some ideas for novels. I used to lie awake in bed and let a story just roll around in my head until I went to sleep. Then the next night, I’d pick up the story where I had left off. Eventually, I decided that I ought to write some of that stuff down. I still have some of it. But I’ve matured a lot since then.
My efforts at writing for publication came after I was married with two children. I discovered that I just had to write. I didn’t feel right not doing it. So I used what little free time I had to write and I loved it, but I just kept stuffing it all into a file drawer. Then my husband said, “Look, if you’re going to be doing this, you might as well share it.” So I did, and I’m very glad.
